About the Author
Best known for his series of photographic monographs on the nude male, Paul Freeman's nude portraits of sports stars, Olympians and actors appeared between 1995 and 2005 in Studio Magazines' '(not only) Black And White', '(not only) Sport' and 'Blue', and in their books The Sydney Dream (2000), 'The Athen's Dream' (2004), and 'Sportbook' (2003)
In 1996 Paul wrote the best-selling biography of footballer Ian Roberts, ('Ian Roberts: Finding Out', Random House 1997).
His first monograph, �'Bondi Classic', was published to critical acclaim in 2003, and was followed by 'Bondi Urban' (2005), 'Bondi Work' (2006) and 'Bondi Road' (2007). This best-selling series, which takes its' name from Sydney's most iconic suburban beach, observes the contemporary young Australian urban male at home, at work and at play.
Equally successful has been Paul's Outback series, which uses the Australian bush and its' changing moods to explore Paul's male aesthetic, and to style and weather his subjects, varying thematic focus in �each of 'Outback' ( 2008) ,' Outback Currawong Creek' (2009) , 'Outback Brumby' (2010), and 'Outback Bushmen' (2012).' Outback Dusk' has just been released.
His 2011 and 2013 books 'Heroics' and' Heroics II' are an exploration of the neo-classic nude male �referencing sculpture and painting in Western European art, and even surrealist film interpretations. This�work comments on attitudes to the naked male in public and art by juxtaposing our collective artistic heritage with contemporary reality and male physiques.

Simply the best.

There's little much I can add here on this latest masterpiece. The book is perfect and a wonderful addition to the Outback series. Mr. Freeman captures male nudity in the most beautiful sense. Natural, rugged, and athletic builds--approximately 190 pages; nothing manicured which can be so easily found without nothing special in almost all of the other books on male nudity. Mr. Freeman is a true artist who captures the male body in total perfection.

Kuddos for Mr. Freeman's Outback Dusk - Another Great One

Outback Dusk is a masterpiece of the male nude in photography. Paul Freeman can take the ruggedness of the outback terrain and match it with the perfect rugged model, or soften it by using a not so rugged model, either way it works . He is a master of shadowing and positive and negative space when posing his models. There is a perfect quietness to his photographs that can be both calming on one hand, soothing and warm on the other, with just a hint of sexual tension what some call "warm of may" a sexy innocence.

His pictures in this book and his other Bondi and Outback books are almost candid in their composition. Which to me is the greatest talent a photographer can have. In his Heroics books the models are posed to resemble the classical style of art, in composition, shadow play and the negative spacing of the models figures in their poses is impeccable.

I have just received Photographer Paul Freeman's newest autographed book Outback Dusk.
There are few photographers who truly capture men and the male nude the way he does. I have to admit he is the best. I have been quite inspired by his work in my own work. Though I haven't done any nudes in my work just yet, I do however see, and feel, the artistry he puts into his work: light, shadow, model, lens and the print of his visual works.
I look at my own photographic work in a much different light since I have begun studying Mr. Freeman's photographs. When looking at his work, Freeman captures an honest beauty where men can be men in the world through their ruggedness, at times each other, their independence, silence, at play, nature, their honesty, a bond of friendship and most importantly of love between one another. It's men in all their beauty. The photographs represent the beauty of being a man in the world, gay or otherwise.
For me, his images represent those qualities I love most about being a man, a gay man for that matter.
Outback Dusk is a beautiful artistic monolith of Freeman's talent as a photographer.
Dusk is a great edition to the collection of the Outback series.

Convenient System!

Flashcards are an amazing way to recall information. There’s just something to reading snippets quickly. This system has everything you need in one spot. It’s portable, convenient and very effective to helping your retain information in the least amount of time. Of course, you won’t remember your stuff unless you actually use them! But the more you do, the better you will be when it comes to writing the exam. So if you’re thinking about making your own cards, save yourself the time by getting this system. It’s well worth the price to have this kind of convenience!

Good but not great

Flashcards are genius in that I can absorb just a little bit of info when I have free time. I did not enjoy folding and tearing along the perforations to separate the 60 sheets of cards, though. I wish they'd come already separated. The writing is small and the explanations are lengthy, so my eyes tire quickly after just a few cards. I have founds some words missing in a few of the explanations and some acronyms are incorrect (FFIEC spelled FFEIC for example) which can be confusing. For the most part, this is a good product for study purposes but definitely could use improvement.

About the Author
Mark Murphy is the founder of CommonsWare and the author of The Busy Coder's Guide to Android Development. A three-time entrepreneur, his experience ranges from consulting on open source and collaborative development for Fortune 500 companies to application development on just about anything smaller than a mainframe. He has been a software developer for over 25 years, working on platforms ranging from the TRS-80 to the latest crop of mobile devices. A polished speaker, Mark has delivered conference presentations and training sessions on a wide array of topics internationally. Fails at instruction, barely usable as reference

I had high hopes for this book - I've used many a press books before for picking up new languages and technologies. The book began good and the first couple demos were useful, but then things kind of fell apart.

There are basically two pedagogical approaches that these sorts of books take: teach by example or teach by exercise. In the former, you learn by rote repetition typing of the projects listed -- in the latter you put your knowledge to use by solving instructional problems. Books like these tend towards the former while classroom books tend towards the latter.

This book begins with some teaching by example, showing fully functional code that you can re-create on your own to see how things work. But then after that, he resorts to just showing what is POSSIBLE with Android, but does not provide complete working code. Unless, of course, you count the downloadable code from the a press website, which the author relies heavily on. But if you are simply loading up working code written by someone else, rather than typing it out, there is not much learning happening. (If the author simply wished to save on paper and thus cut costs, perhaps some exercises / practice problems would have been a good substitute)

The book version that I had read used obsolete versions of Android, as well -- and did not use the Eclipse Android Development Toolkit, either.

Considering that this book is listed as "Beginning", one would expect some more hand-holding and less rapid exploration of features. The material is not really arranged in a way that would lend itself to being used a reference book -- it seems to sit square in the middle between pedagogical and referential.

Beginning Android programmers may find better starting material on the android developer site (developer.[...]), or in other books. I do not recommend this one.

Ok... not as good as I had hoped, though

The book is fairly good but Wrox's Professional Android Development is more thorough. I ended up having to buy three chapters from their handy "chapter on demand" ordering system just to fill in gaps in this book.

Excellent Overview of the Android Platform

I was looking for a book on Android to allow me to decide whether to start developing products for it. I generally steer away from "beginning" books as I have been developing in Java for over 10 years. As this was just to get a feel for whether to select Android I decided to look at this book. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of this book. I will still probably get a more advanced book but this is a very good starting point.

The book covers all the core features of Android, and along with the API docs that come with the SDK you have a very complete set of documentation for a moderately complex project.

Apress is becoming a large part of my technical book collection, and as with the majority this book does not disappoint and I would recommend it as a good overview of the Android development platform.
