Debbie Millman has worked in the design business for more than twenty-five years. She is president of the design division at Sterling Brands. She has been there for nearly fifteen years and in that time she has worked on the redesign of global brands for Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, Colgate, Nestle, and Hasbro. Millman is President of the AIGA, the largest professional association for design in the world. She is a contributing editor at Print Magazine, a design writer at FastCompany.com, and co-founder and chair of the Masters in Branding program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Great insights. A very enjoyable read

My husband, a corporate design strategist, bought this book recently and couldn't stop talking about it. I borrowed it and read it cover to cover in what felt like five minutes. Not only is it entertaining, it's full of insights about our culture now and how it has developed over the course of the past century. The anthropological side of branding and design is even more fascinating than I had realized, and Millman and the people she interviews (including Malcolm Gladwell, my all-time favorite New Yorker writer next to Calvin Trillin) interpret and articulate it beautifully. Enthusiastically recommend!

Thought-provoking, but slightly repetitive

I listen to Debbie Millman's podcast and was very excited to read this book. I work in marketing and enjoyed her dialogue with brand thinkers; many were very though-provoking. However, it was definitely more about "brand thinking" than "other noble pursuits." While there was a range of folks interviewed, I did feel it got a little repetitive towards the end.

I've always been a fan of Debbie Millman's podcast "Design Matters." Her books and interviews are invaluable resources designers have access to today. Brand Thinking gives the reader a backstage pass to the great design minds behind varied industries and global brands. It is most definitely worth the read (and re-read) for aspiring designers like myself or even seasoned designers who are looking to find a different angle on what 'branding' is all about. Excellent text for a resident rotating in pediatric radiology

Ok, the book weighs quite a bit to carry around daily; however, for a one volume pediatric radiology text, this is a must have. The text is easy to read and illustrations are clear. Dr. Swischuk interjects with his occassional humor which makes this book enjoyable to read.

The text is organized by organ system and for a resident, covers the essential topics. It can easily be read in 2 months.

This is a book that I highly recommend, especially after reading Dr. Donnelly's Fundamentals of Pediatric Radiology.

Great cartography but poor physical design decreases its value.

On the positive side, the atlas contains the usual excellent NG cartography, along with a great deal of social and economic information, and it is inexpensive. This edition contains far more information than the first edition. For a middle east regional atlas,there appears to be only limited competition. The atlas provides detailed country maps covering 1 to 2 pages . The atlas has several informative thematic maps, as well as maps covering conflict zones. On the negative side, the physical design and its production makes the atlas frustrating to use. Many of the maps cover two adjacent pages. Unfortunately, the atlas does not lie flat, so you cannot easily see the cartographic information along the inside of the pages. When opened at its maximum the atlas stays highly curved in the middle, obscuring some information. You would have to split the glue binding to get a full view of the two page maps. Another annoying aspect of this edition is the glossy cover, which easily picks up fingerprints every time you handle it. Published in 2008, the atlas is ripe for a revision. For any future edition of the atlas NG should have the pages sewn in signatures, which would allow for a more durable, flat lying atlas. A hardcover edition, along with the paperback edition would also be welcome.

Accurate Atlas of Middle East

This atlas unlike various other atlases, is very accurate, well mapped and well written. Unlike some atlas that they change the name of the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Gulf and they skip the name of Israel and deny the existence of Israel (Collins Atlas of Middle East) to pander to the Arabs, this National Geographic Atlas is a reliable source of information. It is loaded with colorful large size maps and detailed information. It covers the complete Middle East.

This atlas is a great reference for students, geography buffs, culture lovers and simply seekers of knowledge. I write a lot of history and geography. I use this atlas as one of my references in my articles and books. I recommend this atlas to all map lovers.

Handy sized atlas and reference for mid east countries

There is a two page spread for each country with a map and basic stats for the country. Additional regional maps show info about climate, land use, population, religions, languages, oil, water, food, historical sites and various conflicts. There is a multi-page history timeline. The maps are similar to those in their big world atlas 8th edition but they are a little more colorful. This is a handy size to keep near your TV news watching chair. As with most Nat Geo atlas they print right up into the binding but with the larger atlas it lays open flat and this is a feature but with this smaller book you loose some data in the crease. There is a place map inside the front cover to easily locate each country's map.

Couldn't agree more with the two previous posts about it being better
than most of the $20.00 anatomy books. this cheap book gives you a more
clear and concise view of human anatomy, perfect for beginners, and even
professionals, restated save your money buying fancy anatomy books, i find
it funny how i own majority of the top art anatomy books but yet i have this on my desk, and $400.00 worth of art anatomy books stored in the closet, interesting photos believe it or not this dull black and white 1935 edition with it's simplicity, and thorough lessons, your knowledge of anatomy will improve fast, BELIEVE ME THIS IS A MUST BUY...

Has helped me a great deal.

My knee has been bad for years. I went to a chiropractor and he made it much worse. I couldn't walk without the use of a cane, and there were many screams of pain even using a cane. The book is a quick read, and the exercises are very simple. You almost figure they are to simple to do much good, but I started it and within just 2 days I had far less scream coming out of my mouth from intense knee pain. I have been doing the exercises for a week and my knee feels so much better. I am using the cane far less and figure that if I keep at the exercises that i will be able to walk again without pain.

The author is an expert. I wish he had a book on feet. I would get that one too.

Well-written, easy to read, entertaining, rigorous Macroeconomics

I have done 2 Macroeconomics courses but left with fuzzy knowledge about how the macro economy worked. I learned a lot of theoretical stuff but could not connect it well to practically understand what I heard in the economics news. THIS BOOK HAS GIVEN ME A MUCH BETTER UNDERSTANDING. If there is one macro book you should get, get this one and you're going to learn a lot. The author knows how to make it fun and easy to get very useful knowledge! You will see many instances of this in the book. The discussion of budget deficits and debt and the explanations of the schools of thought in economics really left me very clear on the key issues.

I could not agree more with the author when he says in the Preface, "Many Presidents and Prime Ministers would have been better at their jobs and would have avoided horrible mistakes in economic management if they had learned the macroeconomics" in this book. If the President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez, knew what was in this book she would have managed the economy better!!!

Best, most practical, easy to learn from

I have found this book to be easy to learn from. Everything is developed step-by-step, and the author writes in a style that makes you feel he is there talking to you, improving your understanding. What the book description says is totally accurate. It is very practical and does quickly take you to concerns at the frontiers of macroeconomics. It has improved my thinking and understanding of macroeconomics quite a lot.
